Hearing Your Feedback and Strengthening Our Approach

Thank you to all registrants who took the time to participate and share their perspectives. Your input is essential to helping us better understand your experiences and how we can improve.

This communications report reflects what we heard from you. Registrant engagement is incredibly important to the CDTA. It helps shape how we communicate, how we engage with registrants, and how we carry out our role as a regulator. We value your voice and remain committed to listening and strengthening our approach.

Based on what we heard, we are also sharing the following information to help address some of the common questions and areas of confusion that came forward. Our goal is to provide greater clarity about our role, processes, and responsibilities, and to support you in navigating your interactions with the College more easily.

The Importance of Registrant Engagement

Engaging with the College and staying informed through our communications helps you understand what is expected of you as a registrant and why those expectations are in place. This can make it easier to navigate requirements such as Registration, Continuing Competence, and Standards of Practice.

It also ensures you are aware of any updates, changes, or important information that may impact your practice. By staying connected, you can avoid surprises, plan, and remain in good standing.

Getting involved, such as serving on the Council or a Committee, is one of the most meaningful ways to have your voice heard, contribute to decisions, and gain a deeper understanding of the College’s work.

Understanding the Role of the CDTA

Our role is to protect the public by ensuring Dental Technologists (RDTs) and Dental Technicians (DTs) provide safe, competent, and ethical care. Learn more about our role.

We understand that registrants may look to the College for services like continuing education, networking opportunities, business support, advocacy, or other member benefits. These are important supports that can be provided by professional associations.

The College of Dental Technologists of Alberta (CDTA) is not a professional association, it is a regulator under the Health Professions Act.

Why We Don’t Provide Member Services

Alberta’s Health Professions Act requires the CDTA to remain separate from professional advocacy and member-focused services. This means we do not provide continuing education, business guidance, networking opportunities, advocacy, or other member benefits offered by professional associations.

Maintaining this separation ensures that we can regulate the profession fairly, transparently, and in the best interest of the public.

Transparency in Our Operations

We understand that many registrants are looking for clearer insight into what the College does and how resources are used.

To support transparency, key documents are available on our website. These include our Strategic Plan, Financial Statements, Council Meeting Summaries, and Annual Report of Operations

If you’re looking to better understand what we do, why we do it, and how decisions are made, these resources are a great place to start. We’re also continuing to look for ways to make this information easier to find and more straightforward to navigate.
