2025 Practice Permit Renewal

Practice Permits issued to regulated members expire on December 31, 2024 and must be renewed for the upcoming registration year (January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2025).

• Online renewals must be completed (including full payment) before November 30, 2024.  After November 30, 2024 a $400.00 late fee will be applied.
• Renewals are completed online through your Member Portal.  Applications that do not require College review are approved immediately upon payment in full.
• Once your renewal application is complete, a 2025 practice permit will be available for download on or before January 1, 2025.  You may download and print your practice permit of proof of registration.  The Public Registry may also be used to verify registration.

We are pleased to announce that there will be no fee increases for the upcoming registration year. This decision comes as a result of our ongoing efforts to enhance operational efficiency and manage costs effectively.

By streamlining our operations and making thoughtful operational choices, we’ve managed to keep our fees steady for the upcoming registration year. This approach ensures that we can continue to meet our regulatory duties and advance our strategic plan.

2025 Fee Schedule

The Health Professions Act requires that all Regulated Members inform the College immediately when there are changes to the following information: 

• Employment status, including employer name, address and phone number. 

• Position, title and area of practice. 

• The Regulated Member’s home mailing address and home and work phone numbers. 

Information changes can be submitted to the College office at anytime by email to membersinfo@cdta.ca

All regulated members on the general register are required to complete 24 continuing comptence hours every 24-months.

For active regulated members, a new Continuing Competence Program cycle will begin October 1, 2023.

Effective March 31, 2023, Regulated Members must report program credits into the CDTA database through the member portal on the College's website within 90 days of completion of a learning activity.

Before completing your renewal, Regulated Members are responsible to ensure that continuing competence program records for activies completed after March, 31, 2023 have been uploaded to their member portal.

You can download a certificate of registration. 

1) Log into www.cdta.ca to access your member portal

2) Click on the "membership" tab 

3) "Download Membership Certificate" 

4) Print and display!

How to Access and Print your Practice Permit

Under the Health Professions Act, qualified individuals practicing Dental Technology in Alberta must be registered with the CDTA and have a valid practice permit.  Dental Technologists and Dental Technicians may cancel their Practice Permit and Registration when they: 

• are taking a leave from practice (ie. maternity leave, lay off etc.) 
• will no longer be practicing the profession of Dental Technology (such as retirement) 

When you cancel your Practice Permit and registration you: 

• do not hold a Practice Permit and may not practice 
• are not covered by professional liability insurance 
• may not perform any professional services which: 
  • are directly connected to the dental industry in Alberta, and/or 
  • require or benefit from a dental technology background (i.e. dental administration, health authorities, dental insurance, dental sales, dental labs, dental practices, dental education, denture clinics/labs) 
• may not use the protected titles:
  • dental technologist
  • dental technician
  • registered dental technologist
  • registered dental technician
  • D.T.
  • R.DT
• are no longer on the Register of the College of Dental Technologists of Alberta 

If you are no longer practicing Dental Technology in Alberta you have two options:

Renew your Practice Permit

If your absence is for a short period, you can renew your practice permit until December 31, 2025. This allows you the flexibility to return to work at any time prior to December 31, 2025 without submitting further information, documentation or paying additional fees to the College. 

Cancel your Practice Permit and Registration

You may cancel your practice permit and registration and then apply to reinstate your practice permit and registration prior to returning to work.  The reinstatement process is different from the renewal process with different registration requirements, fees and timelines.

Regulated Members of the College may resign from the College by submitting:

• a request for resignation in writing
• a signed and notarized STATUTORY DECLARATION
• payment of any fines, fees, costs, dues or levies owing at the time of the resignation request

A reinstatement fee is levied at the time of reinstatement for individuals who do not renew or cancel their practice permit and registration in accordance with the bylaws.
