The College

The Health Science Profession of Dental Prosthetics
College of Dental Technologists of Alberta

THE COLLEGE

Dental Technologists and Dental Technicians became a self-regulating group of individuals with the establishment of the Alberta Association of Dental Technicians (AADT) receiving Proclamation November 1, 1990, under the Dental Disciplines Act, Bill 44, in the Province of Alberta. The Associations’ responsibilities were then transferred to the College of Dental Technologists of Alberta under the Proclamation of the Health Professions Act, 1999 and the Dental Technologist Profession Regulation Proclamation October 19th
2004..

A Council of the College governs its members in a manner that protects and serves the public interest. The Council consists of six (6) regulated members and two (2) public members. The Council is represented by the President and appoints a Registrar. The Council hires an Executive Director to oversee the day-to-day operations of the Colleges’ administrative and management duties that include hiring staff, liasoning with committees, representing the College on various associations and agencies; chairing of council meetings; and most importantly networking and supporting our members and encouraging new member participation in the College. The Regulated Council Members are elected by the Colleges’ regulated membership; other members may be elected or appointed by the Council.

Once the Council has been selected and a President appointed or elected, the Council then appoints an Executive Committee.

The Colleges’ calendar year is January 1 - December 31 with renewals being sent out in early September.

All late renewals are subject to administrative fees. Membership is divided into the following categories: Registered Dental Technologist, Registered Dental Technician, Educational Student, Practicum Student, Dental Laboratory Technician Assistant, Inactive Member, and Dental Laboratory Owner Member.
