CDTA REGISTRATION POLICY

Step.1
Please read the following information carefully.

In order for an individual to become certified as a Registered Dental Technologist “RDT” in the Province of Alberta they must:
a) have obtained a diploma from a dental technology training school of at least 2 years’ duration approved by Council or have successfully completed a 2 year practicum approved by Council, and
b) have successfully completed a practical examination in the following components
of dental technology:
     (i) removable full prostheses;
     (ii) removable partial prostheses
     (iii) fixed partial prostheses
     (iv) fixed and removable orthodontic and periodontal appliances

In order for an individual to become certified as a Registered Dental Technician “DT” in the
Province of Alberta they must:
a) have obtained a diploma from a dental technology training school of at least 2 years’ duration approved by Council or have successfully completed a 2 year practicum approved by Council, and
b) have successfully completed a practical examination in one or more of the following 4 components of dental technology:
     (i) removable full prostheses;
     (ii) removable partial prostheses
     (iii) fixed partial prostheses
     (iv) fixed and removable orthodontic and periodontal appliances

All Educational student members gain membership while attending the institute of learning.

All Practicum student members gain membership status as a student after completing an assessment application and after meeting prerequisite requirements as well as successfully completing a comprehensive theoretical examination approved by Council. Practicum student members may challenge the certification examinations after completing a 2-year practicum approved by Council.

All Dental Laboratory Technician Assistants gain membership status after completing an assessment application and confirmation of a full time employment position with a dental laboratory, dental technologist or dental technician. Assistant members may apply for Practicum Student status after meeting perquisite requirements and successfully completing a comprehensive theoretical examination approved by Council.

Only those persons who are members of the College of Alberta are eligible to proceed with the certification registration process. All exam applications and schedules are issued through the Professional Examinations Board of the College.

Step 2.
This step is for applicants who have received a 2-year degree or diploma in Dental Technology from a school outside of Alberta.

The Registrar must be satisfied that the applicant’s academic qualifications are substantially equivalent to the qualifications required for graduation from an approved dental program approved by Council in the Province of Alberta.

Step 3.
If your academic and practical credentials have been assessed and the Registrar issues a certificate of approval for registration you may register with the College.

Candidates will be advised, at the time of approval of their credentials, to contact the Examinations
Board of the College to proceed with the registration process. Submit application forms, application
fees (in the form of a cheque or money order), and any required documentation to the address
indicated on the appropriate application form.

Step 4.
Once your application for membership with the College is approved and your name appears on the appropriate Registry of the College, you may apply to successfully complete
