THE BENEFITS & OPPORTUNITIES OF MEMBERSHIP

Professional Insurance
All regulated members are provided with professional liability insurance through their current membership dues. Default of membership dues by regulated members will cancel their protective professional liability insurance.

Professional Vision Care
Parker, Ford & Mackay Specialty Opticians are happy to handle the eye care needs of the membership of the CDTA. They will extend a 20% discount on any complete pairs of eyeglasses (frames & lenses) to all card carrying members and their immediate families. This does not include children's packages as they have already been discounted and cannot be used in conjunction with any other specials. Members may also purchase contact lenses and get the 20% discount as well. Contact George at the Royal Alex Hospital Eye Clinic, between the hours of 8:30am to 5:00pm Monday to Friday. Professional Networking
There is the opportunity for growth within the profession by networking and working with fellow technicians, students and auxiliaries. Technologists and Technicians in the Province of Alberta have come from many different countries and therefore have varying educational backgrounds and sharing of their practical and theoretical expertise is an invaluable tool.

Professional & Personal Involvement
Participation on committees provides an opportunity for personal professional development.

Professional Examinations & Preparation
The Educational & Programming Board, the Professional Examinations Board and its members, supervise all examinations and educational programming.

Member & Student Awards & Scholarships
The College and its members recognize the outstanding efforts of various individuals for their ability to enhance and advance the profession.

Newsletters & Publications
The Council endeavors to provide the membership with articles of interest relative to the profession, and allows for interaction of the members through the sharing and exchange of information. Professional publications are included with membership. The newsletter, “Technicians "N" Touch”, provides member information, notices of upcoming events, workshops, and scheduled dates of examinations are listed regularly.

Continuing Education & Study Clubs
Workshops and scientific seminars are made available to the membership as readily as possible. The Annual General Meeting & Convention allows the membership to participate in seminars/lectures by technicians and suppliers within the profession. Speakers from throughout Canada and the U.S.A. are usually represented, as well as individuals from our own membership.

Convention/AGM
Members receive the benefit of reduced fees for convention registration. At annual conventions, scientific seminars and lectures are offered to members at "no charge".

Professional Mailers
As deemed by Council, all members will receive regular mail-outs of any urgent information relative to the College.

Supplier Discounts
Any advertised discounted rates from suppliers will be made available to members at a "group rate". Arrangements, however, must be made on an individual basis.

Elections
Regulated members in good standing are allowed the opportunity to hold Council positions. Educational Students are represented by a member of the second year class of the Technology Program of Studies. Educational, Auxiliary, and Lab Owner members may either be elected by those they represent or be appointed by Council. As deemed necessary by Council any issues and/or documents requiring acceptance by the general membership will be voted on accordingly.

Professional Services Guides
The College publishes from time to time a survey of Professional disbursements by a dental technologist or dental technician. A Survey of Dental Laboratory fees provided by Dental Laboratory Owners is also available for information and distribution for a nominal charge.

Representation and a Voice
As a member your professional interests matter. Whether you’re a registered member or student, auxiliary or lab owner we all share the same future. With membership, your professional interests will be heard, whether it is on council, local, provincial, or even on a national agenda.

Public Awareness
The Council makes every effort to promote members of the profession to the public and to other professional bodies. Public campaigns may include information visits to schools, colleges, and professional conventions. Media campaigns such as information videos, newspaper and journal articles may also be useful.

Toll Free Number in Alberta
To assist students and members alike, a cost-convenient service is provided to address any personal concerns with regard to membership status. All other concerns should be written and sent to the College office.

Web Site
Members & Suppliers are able to post jobs & sales of equipment, keep up on the latest supplier continuing education programming opportunities, as well as CDTA educational and examination information and other relevant information. Members receive a discount for website advertising.

Professional Recognition R.D.T.'s DT’s
No person except a Dental Technologist or Technician can use the title "dental technologist/technician" or "registered dental technologist/ technician”, use the initials "RD.T."for technologist, or ". D.T." for technician, or represent expressly or by implication that the person is a dental technologist / technician. It is the professional responsibility of all regulated members to support the efforts of Educational and Practicum Student members by offering correct advice, supervision, or signing of the Study Guide. Dentists have been informed to only accept work from Registered Dental Technologists and Registered Dental Technicians with proof of an active registration number. All other persons providing the services of a Dental Technologist or Dental Technician are subject to an offence under the Health Professions Act.

Educational and Practicum Students
Educational and Practicum student members are represented by their elected or appointed Representative who sits on Council. Your Representative is "your voice". As a student member you are eligible for most of the benefits listed above. Your membership with the CDTA provides you the opportunity to progress towards certification as a Registered Dental Technologist or Technician in the Province of Alberta.

Certification
Upon successfully completing all the requirements for registration as an “R.D.T”, or “D.T.” or non-regulated member individuals receive a Certificate of Registration a Registration Card.
